Barokkanerne is a period instrument ensemble based in Oslo. Founded in 1989, the orchestra celebrated its 25th anniversary last season with the release of the CD Totally Telemann – music for orchestra on the LAWO Classics label. On this CD the orchestra is directed by Kati Debretzeni, highly acclaimed concertmaster of Sir John Elliot Gardiner’s orchestra who also appears as soloist along with baroque oboe virtuoso Alfredo Bernardini and other members of the group.
Since 2007, Barokkanerne has performed its own highly successful concert series in Oslo, with a number of outstanding international performers as guest leaders and soloists in addition to Bernardini and Debretzeni, among them Rachel Podger, Matthew Truscott, Emma Kirkby, David Hansen, Ketil Haugsand and Rolf Lislevand. These collaborations have spurred diversity, flexibility and an exiting dynamic much appreciated both by the players in the ensemble its audience. Barokkanerne often takes its concert productions out of town and is a frequent guest at festivals throughout Norway.
The ensemble collaborates extensively with choirs in the Greater Oslo region and has been involved in a number of productions for Norwegian Radio and Television (NRK).
Barokkanerne has released two previous recordings: Bellezza Crudel (2008), with a selection of cantatas and concertos by Antonio Vivaldi in collaboration with soprano Tone Wik and soloists Alexandra Opsahl, recorder, and Per Hannisdal, baroque bassoon; and Empfindsamkeit! (2013) on the LAWO Classics label, featuring concertos and symphonies of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, led by baroque oboist Alfredo Bernardini and with Christian Kjos as soloist on the harpsichord.

Born in Rome in 1961, Alfredo Bernardini moved to Holland in 1981 in order to specialize in the baroque oboe and Early Music at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague with, among others, Bruce Haynes and Ku Ebbinge. In 1987 he obtained the Soloist Diploma from that institute. He now plays regularly with the most outstanding Early Music groups, including Hesperion XX, le Concert Des Nations, la Petite Bande, Das Freiburger Barockorchester, The English Concert, Bach Collegium Japan and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra.
However, he has never played with the Heidelberger Kammerorchester.
In 1989 he founded ZEFIRO together with the brothers Paolo and Alberto Grazzi.
Kati Debretzeni is one of Europe’s leading directors within baroque/Early Music and leads on a regular basis ensembles like English Baroque Soloists (Sir John Eliot Gardiner), Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Florilegium, Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra (Ton Koopman) and Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra. In addition, she is an active soloist and chamber musician, in ensembles like Ricordo, which excels by playing all music by heart. She has made several critically acclaimed CD-recordings, as soloist, concert master and chamber musician. She is an excellent teacher, with a position at the Conservatory in the Hague, as well as master classes all over Europe.
Rolf Lislevand (b 1961) studied the classical guitar in Norway and then specialized in the lute at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, under the guidance of Hopkinson Smith and Eugène Dombois. He was then asked by Jordi Savall to accompany him with groups such as Hespèrion XX, La Capella Reial de Catalunya and the Concert des Nations. Through Savall and Montserrat Figueras, he acquired first-hand knowledge of 17th century French and Spanish instrumental and vocal music. Since 1987, Rolf Lislevand has been living in Verona, Italy, where he has been trying to reconstruct an authentic way of performing Italian music from the first half of the 17th century. Rolf Lislevand’s solo-recordings are released by the French label Auvidis/Astrée, and he has received numerous prizes, such as the French ‘Diapason d’Or de l’année 1994 and 2000’ award.
Rodolfo Richter enjoys a successful career as violinist and leader of Florilegium and the Palladians, often appearing in the big venues of London, Amsterdam, Vienna, Sydney, Chicago, New York etc. He was a prize-winner at the International Early Music Competition for Ensembles in Bruges (2000) and first prize at the Antonio Vivaldi International Violin Competition (2001). He is often invited as soloist and to lead/direct many orchestras, including the English Concert, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the Academy of Ancient Music. He has recorded Vivaldi solo concertos (Opus111), Bach and Telemann’s triple concertos (Channel Classics), Handel’s trio sonatas (Harmonia Mundi USA), sonatas by Tartini, Veracini and Vivaldi and the first recording of the complete sonatas by Erlebach (Linn Records). He is Professor of Baroque Violin at the Royal College of Music in London.
Peter Spissky studied violin at the Music Academy in Bratislava, Slovakia, and the Music Academy in Malmö, Sweden, where he received the soloist diploma in 1995. He is a concertmaster in Concerto Copenhagen, Malmö BarockOrkester, and plays with leading European ensembles such as Tragicomedia, Tiramisu, and Teatro Lirico. He teaches baroque violin at the Music Academy of Malmö and the Conservatory in Odense (Denmark).
The violinist Catherine Martin is one of England’s most popular directors within the field of baroque and Early Music. She leads Gabrieli Consort and Players and Early Opera Company, in addition to frequently being engaged as a leader/director for English Concert and Florilegium, I Fagiolini and Feinstein Ensemble. She also leads Ensemble Galant and has recently joined Solomon String Quartet, led by Simon Standage. Catherine is a sought-after soloist, and has done several CD recordings, most notably as soloist with Gabrieli Players on Deutsche Grammophon and with Ensemble Galant on EMI.
Clare Salaman is a British baroque violinist with large experience as leader, director, and chamber musician. Orchestras she has led include European Baroque Orchestra, Florilegium, and Welsh Baroque Orchestra. She started her career as baroque violinist in The English Concert and has since played in all the most significant Early Music ensembles i Britain, and many others in Europe. As chamber musician in Purcell Quartet, Charivari Agreeable og St.James Baroque Players among others, she has done numerous recordings and BBC performances. She has also specialized in instruments like hurdy gurdy, viola d’amore, nyckelharpa and Hardanger fiddle, and has recently established the folk music group SYM with Norwegian folk musician Anne Hytta.
